Would Driving Non Cdl Required Trucks Be Counted As Truck Driving Experience?

Im starting truck driving school next week(through a government funded program) and I cant work OTR because of me being in College and have a small business to run on the weekends. I am being offered a job driving a straight truck that delivers small – mid sized storage units (PODs) but the job doesnt require me to have a CDL. Im wondering if I accepted this job would it be counted as truck driving experience or would I still be considered a newbie and still unabled to land high paying local driving jobs? Im just trying to get experience Thanx
