Why Do People Work In Jobs That They Obviously Hate ?
Hi Folks,
I know that we are not all in a position to pick & choose ideal employment, but when I encounter miserable and grumpy folks, who are fed up with their work life, I wonder “well, do something else more suited, then”.
I have chosen a career in an area of designing & installing power stations in remote parts of the world, so get to play with helicopters & big trucks etc.
My first college holiday job was putting thousands of toy tractor tyres on toy tractor wheels.
Soul destroying.
Surely, in an ideal work environment, which doesn’t exist, we should all strive to look forwards to going to work, as we then enjoy it as a big part of our lives.
What do you do, and what do you you reckon on this notion ?
Bob

i think it’s dreadful that people have to do things which do not enrich their lives other than in a monetary sense. there’s too many of us for that to be an easy goal to achieve (note, i don’t think it’s impossible merely that it’s going to take very imaginative, forward-thinking, and clever governing types to join forces to make it happen and, looking at the current state of affairs, that’s not going to happen any time soon) but it’s always worth striving for. it takes a great deal of imagination, courage and self-esteem (or connections in high places) to do what you want. to those who would rather be doing something else: never stop trying.

They need the money

They need the money! I’d much rather be acting in a hit series on TV, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem likely and I have bills to pay. It’s not as easy as it sounds to go out and get that dream.

They have no where else to go, and they believe they know nothing else than what they are already doing. Also fear of change, so they stick with the evil they know.

well because you have a job which isnt actually work and sometimes people feel stuck in those dead end jobs afraid of going to school to get a better one and i can understand why they hate their jobs when i was in college i worked at wal mart and i absolutely hated it so sometimes people have to do what they dont want to to get ahead i suppose but now im out of college and i am a physical therapist and i love it

My job is OK but I like the team I work with: I think the people around you are important to job satisfaction. I would rather be where I am, than go to another job for £1000 more & work with miserable b*stards.

It depends on your attitude. If you put enough tires on trucks, eventually they will let you play with them.

At the begining it was a very good job… got a bit boring but paid well and I needed to provide for my family… family now gone but it was what I knew so stayed with it… inflation took away the purchasing power and now can bairly support myself… but now at my age and health is all I can do… next step… Wal Mart greeter… no I think I would rather starve than work for wally world

Because they need! Here in Brazil people don’t have much choice…
I work in a trading company and I love what I do (Export)!
BUT this is my 7th job!! I’ve been working for almost 21 years already and this is the 1st job where I feel fine! I love my bosses, I love the company! we have ups and downs but I don’t think of leaving or changing… I noticed that I have changed a lot: NOw I cans ay I am mature to manage my own business!

Why on earth would anybody look forward to working?
The only thing I ever looked forward to was getting paid.

People get tired from any kind of job if they don’t get vactions away once in awhile.
we are humans not robots. Not everyone is able to go to college even if they would like to go.
Most people work for a paycheck not for the love of the job.
