My daughter does this job . She works for a drugs company in their warehouse , she also does the office side of it . She is very feminine and attractive and she says sometimes the wagon drivers will ask her when she is walking towards them if anyone is coming to load them up and when she tells them that she is , their face is a picture ha ha …… Tell your friend good luck ..Ps My daughter was already working in this warehouse and the company put her through her fork truck course so tell your friend to look into that possibility ..x

She might get a lot of whistles and cat calls from th e guys on the job. She might also get some push back in some places because men typically drive those. I say she should go for it.
Good luck to her and she should make sure she earns the same wage as the guys.

Don’t see a problem. She’ll have to be prepared to be “one of the boys”, though, and to do some manual humping, if you pardon the expression, as well. The best reach-truck driver I had when I ran a warehouse was a rather striking blonde girl, who would surprise some of the “macho” men by turning round, smiling sweetly and telling them to “F… off!” She was far more accurate and careful than most of the blokes.

i think it would be good, she will get endless reversing jokes, but go for it.

If this is what your friend wants she should go for it my daughter had to move jobs to get her chance to drive a reach truck which I understand is a similar job looks should not come into it if she can do the job then she should give it a go
    Good Luck

Well there are a couple things to consider. 1). Driving a forklift usually, but not always, involves heavy lifting. 2). Most places will not hire you for forklift driving if you have no forklift driving experience. 3). There is no such thing as a forklift license. You can get a forklift certification, but OSHA guidelines state that you need a certification for each location that you work at. So if she pays $40 at some class for the certification, she can only drive at that address. You can’t walk across the street and drive a forklift there unless you get a forklift certification for that address.

There’s all kinds of them where I work….if she is concerned about getting a job, she can dress less girly on interviews.
Our Shipping lead is a girl…and she drives the forklift 50 times better than any man in the factory!!

I work at a packing company and some times I think it would be a good idea to let let them drive a forklift to what i see they can’t do any worst than a man if you would see some of the men that I see at work you would think the same .
I say good luck to her and all the best on the job hunting

I have worked on the dock as a spark for twenty nine years and i have never seen a woman driving a fork truck .
I am not saying that women could not do a better or worse job
Probably though with a woman’s approach and there ability to multitask dare i say it they might be ever so slightly better .
To drive a fork truck you need a C I T B certificate or the equivalent in house training also on the dock a CHIPS card.
what ever she decides i wish her good luck.

she should not have a problem in the factory where i work we have a number of women who drive fork lift trucks.
and i thought we were living in the 21st century is there not supposed to be equality now

All you can do is try. If thats what she wants to do, go for it. just because she is a girly girl, doesnt mean she cant do what she wants. My friend is a girly girl and she works for PGE as an electrician. Also, another friend of mine works as a construction worker building houses. She can do anything!!!

If she could do the work, then what she looks like should be irrelevant.

  17. By maev, February 23, 2010 @ 7:50 am

Just because she’s not a butch doesn’t make her less capable. If she passes and knows her stuff, she could be able to get a decent job. You should not hinder her confidence, support her choice. It helps. She may surprise you.

My sister builds bridges and repairs them. You know that ones over the water. So if she can do that then your friend will have no trobule but she might have to keep prove herself to show that she can do the work.

I think she should totaly go for it, so what if she is a girly girl, if the place wont hire her because of her gender then she can sue for sexual discrimination.

    That d be hot!!

first you have to get the job…..fork lift licences are issued and give by the company haven’ somebody from CAT. say…comin and certify 15-20 people at once. they say they never expire, but there not very tranferable…
