Other Than Truck Driving Schools, What Do You Think Is The Best Way To Get Into A Truck Driving Position?
I am 40 years old and was recently “downsized” from my my job in automotive manufacturing management, after nearly 15 years. I have some trucking exp. but I’ve been out of the loop for a while and I’ve let my CDL’s expire.
I know that I don’t want to go the “Truck Driving School” route, but I know that I have the maturity and stability to do very well as a driver.
Does anyone have any ideas, as to the best road to take to get back into trucking?
P.S.- Just looking to be a company driver for the moment. Defintely not ready to be an O\O
Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Only advise I can give is get a CDL instruction permit. Try to find an OO who will let you co drive. Some of these guys have extra trucks they own. Some will help you, in exchange for you driving their extra truck for percentage after you are qualified.
The biggest problem for any new driver, is the insurance companies. Most trucking companies and OO’ers will put drivers out there, but must get approval from insurance company. That’s your biggest obstacle.
Great place to get advice is OOIDA (Owner Operators Independent Drivers Association) http://ooida.com/

It’s next to impossible. Unless you know an owner/ operator that will take you on.
Trucking companies have too many hoops to jump through with their insurance companies. The insurance company dictates, who they can and can not hire.
