I Want A Career In Trucking, Where Do I Start?

I want a career in Trucking, where do I start? I live in California, I dont know where to begin. Are there places where I can go and take care of everything at once (Paperwork, Testing, etc), and do I need my own truck, or do most companies provide trucks?
Please help me

As others stated, check the yellow pages and online for trucking schools in the area. Check career papers like Jobs and Careers and Employment Guide. They usually have an education section that lists vocational schools for different trades, including transportation/trucking. These schools would likely help you with obtaining your license (you would need a Class A license) and placing you with a trucking company. From what I understand the company would provide your truck.

Talk to truckers before doing this. I did it for several years and really hated it. Weeks away from home, no sleep at times, getting lost and no place to turn around, gaining weight from just sitting, …. lots of things to deal with.
But anyway, look for driving schools on the Internet in your area. Some cost around $5000 or so, or a trucking company will pay for it, and you promise to work for them for a period of time till it is paid back, or they will sue you.
    Something to think about.

Check your yellow pages for a truck driving school, most places have them, that would be a very good start because they will go through everything with you and train your right.

Youll need a commercial driving license that would be a great start, and you should do some research on the internet about trucking.

Well first of all you need to get your CDLs and most trucking companys wont hire you to work unless you have about 2 years experience. However some companies have there own school to get your cdls through them..then you have to work for them for so long or you have to pay for the school. You can just look up trucking companies around were you live and find out what they offer!

Yes there are places that help you get it all at one place, but it is probably cheaper if you start at the D.M.V . Start with your beginners and a medical, look for a 2,3 or a 4 week course that teaches and gets you a license, apply for government grants or loans to help pay for it if you need help

You should probably go to a trucking company and ask them this question. You will need to get a license to drive a big rig and also you will need to apprentice under a trucker for a certain amount of time. The best be is to call a trucking company and start asking questions
