How do I get airbrake endorsement added on my CDL license?

I  know I have to take a test for it but do I get all the info. from the local DMV? Is it a long test? Does it cost me anything?

Yes. You will have to go to your local DMV and take the air brake knowledge test. You will than recieve a permit and can drive commercial vehicles with airbrakes with another licensed driver that has the air brake endorsement in the vehicle with you. You must than take a skills test in an air brake equipped vehicle.
Federal Rules require that even if you already have a CDL, you must take a written and skills test to remove the air brake restriction.

Get a copy of your state’s / province’s commercial drivers handbook. Study the air brake section. The test is rather short, and mostly asks about the pre-trip air brake inspection procedures, and the several minimum / maximum air brake pressures. (pressures when: the warning device comes on / goes off, the “spring” brakes apply / release, the high pressure valve cuts in)
