Greetings all, from CDL B Jobs. Driving a truck for a living can be rewarding and at the same time quite challenging. The lure of the open highways has convinced many an individual to pursue a career as CDL truck driver. We will try to discuss some of the pros and the cons in this article in regards to truck driving careers and acquiring a CDL truck driving license.

Initially, one has to consider the costs. The majority of truck driving schools have been steadily increasing their student rates, as demand for work in a tough economic climate has been increasing. The best advice we can give is to shop around for a commercial driving school in your area that is reputable, and decently priced. Let’s face it, this is a lifetime investment, and you don’t want to short change yourself.

Let’s talk about the job itself. Commercial truck driving can be quite stressful, especially if you consider the time on the road, and the time spent away from your family and friends. Not to mention that the roads seem to be getting more and more congested with “Amateur” drivers that do nothing but create havoc. You could see I am biased.

These are just some of the factors to consider before entering a career as a CDL truck driver. We figured we would give you some of the cons up front. Our next article will discuss the pros, of which there are many. From all of us at CDL B Jobs, we wish you the best of luck.

I have to renew my class A CDL in a couple of months. I currently have a passenger endorsement that is restricted to a Class C from an old job. Since I’m renewing, I would like to get the restriction off just to have every endorsement on my license for bragging rights. However, a school bus that test sites use are only good for a class B plus S, thereby still leaving me with a restriction. Know of any sites that have a large Class A bus? It would probably have to be an articulating bus. Companies that operate them provide the vehicle for testing for their employees, but I need one to rent to take the test. I live in Indiana but will travel because the state accepts out-of-state-test.

So if he goes to a school bus company that trains you and you get your CDL then you quit the next day, does the company have any right to take the CDL away ?

It is issued by the state so I would think they have no right to take the license away.

Only thing I can think they could do is maybe have him sign something that says they would charge him if he just ups and quits.

He has a job lined up he just needs the B license.

My brother is 24. My family moved to Florida the year after he graduated HS. He was okay with it. He worked part time jobs in the mean time until he started college at 20. He’d only go in the spring because it’d give him medical insurance for the whole year until 23. He’d drop 1/2 the classes he took because he was lazy. He than gave up on college and wanted to get his CDL license to drive a truck. He has stalled on getting a CDL B for 2 1/2 years though because he didn’t do well for CDL A (tractor trailer) even though they refunded his money. He thinks no one would hire him until he’s 25 for insurance. In the last 15 months, he’s only worked one month (with Fed Ex job seasonally during Xmas). He still spends a lot of money going on small vacations. He ran up $5,000 in credit card debt in 1 year. Throughout most of that time he said he wouldn’t work any job unless it was one he wanted (mainly truck driving).

He and my dad hated Florida and cried about wanting to move home. My dad didn’t like it because of work. We went back to NJ. My parents maintained owning their home down there though. My parents and I want to move back to Florida if they can like up work. My brother blames my parents for destroying his life (even though he has nothing here and we live an hour from where we used to live). The home in Florida is beautiful (2 levels, has a pool, gated community). The home in NJ is not that nice.

My parents said they’d never charge either of us rent. My dad said he’ll continue to pay for his car insurance. He said he’ll even pay our gas and motels to get us down there (I’m 21). My brother thinks my dad should pay for him to go on a vacation to West Virginia to meet a girl off the internet. He thinks my dad should give him money to go back up to NJ and visit. He said he’ll come up every 6 weeks either way even if he’s not working. He said he’d consider living in AC 4 days during the week in hotels (getting free comped rooms but he has to pay tax) and live in his car the other 3. I told him he has it made compared to most 24 year olds. I said he should be greatful he has patient loving parents. I said you’re choosing to move at your age. No one is making you. Most people think he should seek counseling.

Also, I need the Air Brake endorsement… there is a 25 question test for that… can I take that at teh same time of my general knowlegde test…? Do I have to wait? Do I have to wait till I pass my road test? The WI website doesn’t address any of this, and I’ve been on hold at the DMV for 30 minutes… it’s almost like they want you to come in and find out you can’t take your test….

Every profession has it’s pros and cons. Trucking is not immune from this dilemma. The problem is, the “cons” can cost you plenty of time and money.

Then again, the “pros” can be quite profitable and lead to an exciting career in the trucking industry.

On that note, I just received a review copy of Allen Smith’s Truth About Trucking program.

There’s some great information in this course, that will get you on your way to a “profitable” trucking career.

Allen discusses the following and more…

* Learn How You can Find the Best Training…… FOR LESS MONEY.

* A State by State Listing of The Best Truck Driving Schools

* The Big Leasing SCAM – How the Trucking Companies deal to make Thousands $$$, while the driver’s lose their shirts (and pants).

* Main steps to prepare for profitability as an owner/operator from buying your rig, to fuel and taxes, and everything in-between.

* Which trucking companies pay the most for master truck drivers.

* The BEST and CHEAPEST path for CDL training!

* And Much, Much More…

His program originated in just a simple digital ebook. But there was such a strong demand to have it in audio format, that he actually brought in an audio production company and got it published …in fact, it’s now a CD set.

Great choice, as I don’t know too many students who want to be fixed to their computers in reading a digital e-book for hours at a time.

Now truckers, trucking students and anyone just looking into the industry can put these audio cd’s into their CD players and learn the career changing methods that will lead you to prosperity.

Allen and his wif Donna did a wonderful job of explaing what is needed to have a “profitable” trucking career. See it here at CDL B JOBS
