Bad Time To Start A Trucking Career?

With the Mexican trucks now coming over the border freely, American jobs are at risk. I was going to get my CDL, and now I’m scratching my head thinking it might be a dead end for me.
What do you think? Are American trucking jobs going to dry up, or is it still worth it to get a CDL?

Truck drivers will NEVER not be in demand.. the Mexican trucking companies are only currently entering the US as partnerships with American trucking companies, so they aren’t taking anybody’s jobs (besides, they have to return to Mexico too and you don’t!). The economy is a little slow, so the freight is not moving as fast and there’s less of it. But this doesn’t have anything to do with Mexican trucking companies.
I would still get your CDL and at least go through training if it’s an option for you right now. When the economy picks back up trucking is one of the first industries to bounce back. Go to http://www.otrdrivers.com if you’re interested in the company-sponsored training aspect of it.
